On arrival guest will gather in GHP’s creative design studio’s education center, and have a chance to mingle and meet Disney Legend and imagineer, Bob Gurr and GHP founder and president Garner Holt. We'll be serving a catered box lunch while you enjoy a multimedia presentation about the history of animatronics from the earliest automatons to today’s most sophisticated figures. Bob will be discussing his role in the design implementation of some of Disneyland Park's major original attractions and how the design and production process has evolved over the decades. Garner will walk through the process of how GHP works with their clients from around the world to create successful integration of animatronics and other elements into different attractions. Guests will find this particularly interesting as it will answer some questions about why theme park attractions take so long to design and build.  He'll also be sharing some his favorite bits of Disney animatronic history with images from the GHP archives and some cool artifacts from their collection of historic animatronics.

After the lunchtime presentation, guests will be invited to a tour of GHP's design and production facility. There they'll a walk through the entire creative process—from “spark to spectacular” art, sculpture, engineering, animation, rapid prototyping, “skingineering,” costuming, media production, programming, and more.

The process of creating the world's greatest animatronics is a complex one, with multiple steps along the way. Guests will be blown away by the amount of work it takes to create even the simplest figures, let alone hugely detailed projects like giant fire-breathing dragons or compliant human figures. Everything GHP makes is unique, a prototype in many ways, no matter how many thousands of animatronic figures they've created over the years. Guests will have a whole new perspective on animation in the parks, and a deeper appreciation of the artistry that goes into making dimensional figures move in themed environments.
